Justine — creator of Beyond Adobe Walls — was born and raised in Europe.  She earned a degree in research specializing in textile analysis, and worked in a laboratory for the largest retail company in Europe.  Being multi-talented, she took many private art classes, and designed clothing, jewelry, handbags and hats.  Simultaneously, Justine was involved in theater and interior decorating.

Justine left the Netherlands for warmer weather and moved to California, where she had a job as manager and assistant buyer for a clothing store chain.  At the same time, she was designing one-of-a kind clothing for Beverly Hills boutiques.  Later she began working for numerous major production companies.  One of them was Nolan Miller, designer for Aaron Spelling Productions, she executed costumes for movies, television and Las Vegas shows.  After traveling through the Southwest, she fell in love with Santa Fe and moved there, where she continued her own line of unique evening clothing using only imported fabrics.  During that time, she choreographed and narrated her own fashion shows as fund-raising benefits for the Santa Fe Opera.

Uniting her nurturing nature and artistic talent, Justine began her culinary career in 1980. Shortly thereafter, she became co-owner of Becker’s Delicatessen, and integrated her talent for spatial dynamics and interior design to re-model and expand the interior of the restaurant.  She personally drew up the blueprints to give the restaurant an ambiance of Europe.  Becker’s subsequently grew to a sit-down restaurant with a bakery & deli, also providing full catering and event planning services.  Immediately after the renovations, Justine took time out to enhance her catering skills at Peter Kump Cooking School in New York.  Later, at the University of Kansas in Manhattan, she learned the art of making French bread and pastry.
